The Church

Are you lost? You have somehow stumbled upon this ancient church, its crumbling stone walls holding secrets you can only imagine, pious men and women paying homage to whatever they worship; burying their dead, welcoming their new born, making their pledges of life together. But as you run your fingers along the rough stone, you feel something deeper, old rituals that may or may not have anything to do with holiness or prayers for goodwill, ancient beliefs that may be forgotten, but will never die. You wander further and see the graveyard, crosses implore the black night sky on tombstones so old and weathered the names of those whose bones lie within can barely be read, mausoleums and crypts house the ancient dead; dare you enter? What will you find within? Ghosts? Decaying bones? Remnants of forbidden rituals? You tremble with curiosity, every instinct urges you to depart to the safety of the city proper, yet you take a tentative step forward...
